| Within the past few weeks, the hard drives on my laptop AND my work computer have both died. So I've decided to start storing my sent mail on the server instead of locally - I often need to refer back to it for work, and I don't want to lose it. It will also be more convenient, having it all in one place. But I am so annoyed by the fact that messages in the sent mail folder are marked as new. I tried setting up a rule to mark them as read, but apparently both Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Apple Mail are both set up only to apply rules to the Inbox. Anyone know any ways around this? | |||

Lots of new stuff this week: carrots, cauliflower, white cipollini onions, thai basil, & cucumbers... and the baby bok choy is kinda new since we only had regular size boy choy before. ;) I didn't cook at home nearly enough last week. We have a LOT of veggies in the fridge right now.

Is anyone in town and not busy this weekend? We have a lot of food in the house, and I like to cook for people. Some options: -stuffed cabbage rolls -pasta with freshly made pesto -turkey burgers -something with chard... I have no idea what -fennel slaw/salad

| Today has been a weird day. 1. On my way to the bus stop, I saw a bunny whose ear was... kinda not there... like hanging down mangled. But it seemed to be happy and moving around just fine. 2. There were many cop cars and flashy lights near the light rail station this morning. (Apparently due to this accident.) 3. On the bus on the way home, I was somehow stung by a bee... three times... under my pants. | |||

1. Is Minnesota excessively lenient as far as how badly a car can be in disrepair and still be allowed on the road? Growing up in Ontario, I just don't think people got away with having the ENTIRE passenger door made of trash bags/plastic sheeting. Maybe I just never noticed as a kid? 2. What is the point of keeping your phone on vibrate throughout a 6-hour class but never once looking at it when it vibrates... loudly and repeatedly? If you have to be reached, then by all means keeping your phone on vibrate during class is the right thing to do, but if you aren't going to look at it... why not put it on silent, or turn it off? 3. Is there an award for juxtaposition of an insanely complex sentence with the shortest sentence possible? If so, I nominate this blurb: AP - Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. He was 50. (Actually I think it was slightly more complex the first time I read it, but Yahoo keeps changing it every time I refresh.)

-Entirely too much time spent reinstalling and tweaking programs on brand new hard drive? Check. -Random late night trip to Lunds for creme fraiche? Check. -Successful Father's Day lunch of parsnip soup, grilled cheese, and asian kohlrabi slaw? Check. -Time spent working to make up for hours missed due to class last week? Not so much.

We gave away some of the salad stuff to Tomorrow we have Leah's family for father's day, and I really hope that the parsnip soup I made a few weeks ago has survived the freezer well. It was definitely tasty when I sampled it. We are having it with made-to-order grilled cheese sandwiches like we did last month.

My computer had a meltdown yesterday. I was working on a paper, stepped away for a moment, came back, and couldn't get the pointer to move. Ut-oh. Couldn't F11 to see my desktop. Couldn't Command+Option+Escape to Force Quit. So I shut down, restarted... and got a grey screen with a question mark file icon. Apparently my hard drive is completely unmounted/unaccessible. Needless to say, I have a Genius appointment this evening. I just backed up to our external HD about a month ago, so I think the only thing I would lose would be any pictures taken since then and not uploaded anywhere. And I had done some cleanup/rearranging of bookmarks - not a big deal. But still... I hope it doesn't come to that. In other news of the not-so-fun, Leah's doctor replied to her message saying something to the effect of "I can do a history & physical form, but if you need ART you need to see a fertility specialist." Um... did she even read the message? I.e. the part where we emphasized NOT needing ART? So we have given up and have an appointment with apparently the only fertility specialist within HealthPartners... or at least the only one everyone recommends to lesbians. Of course, he is on vacation for 2 weeks. I sincerely hope that he is nice and understands what we are looking for. If there is any sense that we are wasting his time, my head will explode.

I am frustrated with GLBT life today. First of all, Leah had a dr appt to have a form signed for a sperm bank, but the provider cancelled it because she "wasn't comfortable." Then I saw a link on Facebook to this letter from the HRC president. The letter itself is good but it highlights the sad fact that Obama & his administration are not supporting fairness like we had hoped.

It's good to see that they love each other sometimes. When they are frisky... especially when it is near feeding time... they run around hissing and swatting at each other.

We may have reached an overload of green leafy things. Anyone want some spinach or yukina savoy? ( pics ) I hope this is the beginning of a few weeks of strawberry deliveries. My current favorite garnish is toasted sesame seeds... like on yesterday's stirfry of asparagus, bok choy, and mushrooms.

New things in this week's box were bok choy, yukina savoy, baby broccoli, and baby white turnips. We haven't used anything new except some of the broccoli - I also received my order from Nuts Online yesterday (with 10% off, thanks to I haven't yet gotten around to making the parsnip soup, but the rainy weather this weekend might inspire me to do that. The only thing I am feeling a little "overrun" with is onion/garlic type things... we still have ramps, plus green garlic, egyptian onion, potato onion - all essentially green oniony-looking vegetables. But if those are the only things we waste, I guess that won't be the end of the world.

Today we had by far our favorite meal that we have created with our CSA sunchokes - pizza, inspired by the potato pizza at Pizzaiolo. They don't include cheese, but we used a sprinkling of the Cedar Grove organic mozzarella from our first cheese delivery. Even the basil was from the CSA!

( pictures ) We haven't eaten much of this week's box yet. But I did cook the rhubarb into sauce, then added strawberries and ate it with granola for my breakfast on Friday. Yum! We also used some spinach and green onions yesterday at our grilled cheese party, but the breads and cheeses were much more important than the veggies. Brie and fig preserves on croissant is one of my new favorites sandwiches. Also, thanks to the random internet folks who suggested using mayo instead of butter on the outside of grilled cheese. SO perfectly toasty golden.

So, I missed going to BVS Fun Fest, because one of Leah's coworkers had her car hit by a school bus and she stayed late to take pictures and be supportive. I did, however, decide that I was going to nix the idea of ordering in, and cook dinner for everyone. I told Nathen I was going to take over his kitchen, but actually he was around just enough to find me bowls & things that I needed, and it was perfect. For an appetizer I blended whipped cream cheese with fresh chives and ramps. It was so yummy with Triscuit thin crisps! Then I made a salad with the HVF spring greens and Castle Rock organic blue cheese, along with some shredded black radish, dried cranberries, walnuts, and balsamic vinaigrette. And I made the same pasta salad I made last week - with the HVF sorrel sauteed with some mushrooms and diced Roma tomatoes - but this time I added chicken (a rotisserie chicken from Lunds, to made it easy). Everything was perfect and easy! I hope everyone liked it as much as they said they did - maybe they were just being nice because I forced my cooking on them.

Tonight we are going to N&K's for dinner, and I am thinking of bringing appetizers... For one thing there are so many chives to use up now, since there were a lot left from last week. So I'm thinking chives and ramps blended into cream cheese, with some bagel chips or something. Tonight is also the Fun Fest at the school I was student teaching at, and I would like to stop by that, but I'm not sure we'll have time. If we decide not to go there, I might have time to make another appetizer or salad - we have so many greens to use! ETA: Definite plan for the spinach and the mozzarella is to make pizza. That, I can't wait for!
